Geomagnetic activity has been unsettled the past 36 hours resulting in fairly poor propagation at higher latitudes. Signals in the Midwest USA have been very weak.

11620 INDIA. AIR, 1613, 9/30/07. Song of India IS at tune in. YL in @ 1615 into Russian service to EEu. Few songs between comments. Gradually weakened to inaudibility by 1640 (Strawman-IA).

11735 TANZANIA. R. Tanzania, Zanzibar, 1806, 9/30/07. ME sounding chanting vocals at tune in. S1 signal at peaks. Into extended pre-sumed Swahili commentary by OM. Signal to S2 peaks by 1821 (Strawman-IA).

15476 ANTARCTICA. LRA 36 RN Arcangel, 2001, 9/25/07. Tune in to YL doing nx or announcements. Faded out for a few minutes but resurfaced @ 2015 with Spanish pop ballads. S1 peaks at 2028 tune out (Strawman-IA).

The Gangtok All India Radio Completes 25 Years of Broadcasting

Gangtok,Sep29: The All India Radio Station of Gangtok has completed 25 years of its first broadcast from Sikkim.To mark the occassion ,The Gangtok Station of All India Radio will relay tomorrow a special programme to be aired starting at 3.15p.m. on Sunday. The only radio in Sikkim airs its programme on Frequency (mediumwave and shortwave in kHz) at 1404 kHz ,4835 kHz,and 6085 kHz from Gangtok.

The national All India Radio is the only radio station in the capital city of Sikkim although there are plans to open 3 FM radio stations in Sikkim by I&B Ministry of Government of India as per information released.

9/23/07. Threshold audio popping above noise with
hints of music. Faded quickly (Strawman-IA).

4746.88 PERU. R. Huanta 2000 (presumed), 1050,
9/23/07. OM & YL tlk at threshold level. High-pitched
female voice definitely cut through noise better than OM
(Strawman-IA).

4976 UGANDA. R. Uganda, 332, 9/22/07. Pop mx at best
level in a long time. Frequent announcements. Overall
fair-poor due to t-storm static (Strawman-IA).

4909.2 ECUADOR. R. Chaskis del Norte (presumed) ,
1055, 9/23/07. Andean vocal w/flute at only S1
level. Long-winded OM in possible nx or announce-
ments @ 1101 (Strawman-IA).

5010 INDIA. AIR, Thiruvananthapuram (presumed),
1238, 9/23/07. Threshold audio w/ OM in extended
tlk (Strawman-IA).

5910 COLOMBIA. Marfil Estereo, 1130, 9/23/07. SP
ballads. Feded away but back by 1136. Slop from pre-
sumed DW relay, Bonaire, 5905 (Strawman-IA).

6120 SINGAPORE. R. Singapore Inatl, 1215, 9/23/07.
Indo service listed w/ OM & YL alternating in presumed
nx. S1 on peaks but clear (Strawman-IA).

7165 RUSSIA. VOR, via Vladivostok, 1230, 9/23/07.
Russian choral mx was only S1 but steady
(Strawman-IA).

12085 SYRIA. R. Damascus, 2020, 9/18/07. Typical
Arabic vocals with percussive instrument
accompaniment. Better audio modulation than usual
but still way short. S2-3 carrier (Strawman-IA).

YL presenting nx feature; 2485, Katherine stronger at S3.
Strangely Alice Springs not audible (Strawman-IA).

3235 PNG. R. West New Britain, 1235, 9/16/07. Apparent
church service with organ mx and choir singing. Signal
reached S6 on peaks. Starting to fade by 1241 (Strawman-IA).

3905 PNG. R. New Ireland, 1243, 9/16/07. Pop mx pgm.
Less fading on 75 meters vs. 90 meters. Lots of HRO
splatter. Nikkei absent at this time. Fair(Strawman-IA).

3925 JAPAN. R. Nikkei, 1231, 9/14/07. Pgm of chamber mx by
small orchestral ensemble. S7 on peaks w/ HRO splatter. Log
at 1026 on 9/15/07 was S9. Long-winded tlk by YL into
apparent advertising spot (Strawman-IA).

4460 CHINA. CNR1, 1110, 9/15/07. Listed station was weak with
vocal mx in Mandarin language (Strawman-IA).

7165 CHINA. PBS Nei Menggu, Hohhot, 1254, 9/15/07. Presumed
station with extended chatter between OM & YL. Peaking S5 but
fading by 1259 (Strawman-IA).

7200 RUSSIA. R. Rossii, via Yakutsk, 1257, 9/15/07. Signal was S4
on peaks w/ Russian pop/folk vocal mx. Time pips to 1400 was 4
seconds late (Strawman-IA).

9680 INDONESIA. VOI, 1348, 9/16/07. Presumed the station with
pop mx and frequent announcements. Very commercial sound.
Clearest signal  on this freq, at this time in recent memory. S3-4
signal w/ excellent audio (Strawman-IA).

9875 LITHUANIA. R. Vilnius, 2355, 9/12/07. OM & YL doing EG nx.
Signal reached S8 peaks w/ fading. Nx ended 2358 followed by short
pop mx selection. Goodbye from announcers at 2359. Pulled plug
at 2359:45 in mid-song (Strawman-IA).

11510 SRI LANKA. Deewa Radio, 1325, 9/10/07. VOA Pushtu pgm
to Afghanistan. Contniuous tlk by two OM back and forth. Rapid
flutter on signal which was fair (Strawman-IA).

11585 INDIA. AIR, 1332, 9/10/07. Sindhi service to Pakistan via
Khampur. Ethnic vocal poor-fair (Strawman-IA).

11605 N. MARIANA ISLANDS. RFA, 1335, 9/10/07. Tibetan
service via Tinian. Poor signal had mix of mx/tlk. Indication
might be jamming underneath (Strawman-IA).

11750 THAILAND. BBC, 1246, 9/15/07. EG service with nx
feature about recent Iraq war testimony by US military leader
(Strawman-IA).

11905 SRI LANKA. SLBC, 1350, 9/10/07. Hindi service to SAS.
Ethnic vocals marred by 20/S9 WYFR on 11910. Clear but
fair signal (Strawman-IA).

11945 SINGAPORE. BBC via Kranji, 1352, 9/10/07. Burmese
service had extended tlk between 2 OM. Clear & fair-good
signal (Strawman-IA).

12030 RUSSIA. VOR, 1356, 9/10/07. Russian service via Irkutsk.
YL presenting apparent nx. Audio quite muddy. Signal was fair
(Strawman-IA).

17870 LIBYA. V. of Africa, 1410, 9/9/07. EG political comment.
Audio not clear but mentions of Gaddafi heard. Few musical
interludes. Only het left by 1510. Reported 21695 parallel not
heard (Strawman-IA).

Welcome to Radio DX Log! My name is Jerry Strawman. I am located in Des Moines Iowa, 575 km west of Chicago. I began my journey through the fascinating world of radio monitoring in 1962, after receiving a new Hallicrafters S-120 shortwave receiver as a gift. After 45 years, I still find the excitement of receiving signals from distant lands to be as great as ever. There is something interesting to be heard each day. This blog is intended to present details of my radio monitoring activities, recent communications news, and relevant information about radio monitoring equipment. I am glad you located this blog.
